7 Tips to Transform Your Home this Autumn
As the weather gets colder and we begin to feel more festive, it’s the perfect time to make some cosy adjustments to your home. Look for some inspiration below.
1. Heritage Décor
Heritage colours and patterns are another popular choice for this autumn. These can work as part of a maximalist space or to add visual interest to homes of any size and style. Heritage colours are generally rich, deep hues, such as burgundy, navy, and gold, as well as more muted ones like sage greens and dusky pinks. Pair with heritage patterns, including florals, damasks, and geometrics for extra extravagance.
2. Vintage Furniture
Vintage furniture is a great way to inject personality and charm into your space. As a timeless and more sustainable alternative to buying new, buying second-hand has never been more popular! These pieces have already stood the test of time, so you know they’ll last. To suit the season, look for darker woods and distressed finishes.
3. Getting Cosy
Looking to add some cosiness? As the days become colder, it’s important to create a room that will keep you warm. Add rugs, blankets, and comfy chairs to create a space you can sink yourself into. These can be paired with earthy neutrals (see Café au Lait and Stonebreaker) and a variety of textured fabrics for maximum impact. Velvet, wool, and bouclé are all a good starting point.
4. Dark Academia
Autumn doesn’t just have to be about oranges and browns. This year darker jewel tones, such as deep reds and forest greens (see Mulberry and Woodpecker Green), have become popular choices. These colours are perfect for capturing the spookier side of the season and also creating cosy nooks. Creating mini libraries and reading spaces are also a key component of dark academia so don’t forget to add a bookcase and a comfy chair!
5. Warm Lighting
As it becomes darker earlier, try switching out your bulbs for ones that give off a warmer light. You can teel the colour from the bulb’s Kelvin rating (the lower the rating, the warmer the bulb is). This can create a softer feel, adding ambience that is sometimes missing with cool lighting. Adding lamps and floor lamps can also help to create a cosy atmosphere and brighten reading nooks.
6. Autumnal Florals
Whether incorporating patterns or the real deal, this autumn is all about bringing the outside in. If you want to incorporate patterns, consider reupholstering worn furniture or, as an easier alternative, add some floral art to your décor. Real bouquets can also brighten up any space and add some seasonal cheer. For extra longevity, use dried flowers as they can last the whole season.
7. Wall Displays
One easy way to change your interior is to change your wall displays. You can add pictures, art, mirrors, and painted frames. You can even just move around ones you already own to freshen the space. Mix patterns and materials to create playfulness and, if you’re feeling bold, paint a mural on your wall to act as a backdrop!
